When you’re Steven Spielberg and Stephen King, you don’t have to worry about that silly little pilot, pickup, etc. dance that TV puts most creators through. Nope, not when your project is “Under the Dome,” a sci-fi drama based on a King novel that is now headed straight to a 13-show order on CBS.
Deadline’s TV Editor Nellie Andreeva has lots more detail on this Very Big Project here: http://www.deadline.com/2012/11/cbs-orders-under-the-dome-series-from-steven-spielberg-neal-baer-to-run-niels-arden-oplev-to-direct/
Who’s looking forward to this project?

Brief, though nicely done teaser trailer from the MGM/Screen Gems remake of “Carrie,” this time with Chloe Grace Moretz as the telekinetically troubled teen. What do you think of this project? Looking forward to seeing what they do with it?

"In a climate of fear and remakes–is Sony Pictures actually remaking “Jumanji,” a film that came out less than 20 years ago?–it would be grand to see Warner Bros have the stones to take the kind of daring risk that seems only to be taken by the likes of HBO, Showtime, AMC and other pay and cable TV networks. It’s that risk taking that has put those networks in a position of being at the center what will eventually be viewed as a golden age for daring quality TV series."

Deadline’s Mike Fleming, writing about the mammoth film and TV project Warner Bros. is considering, based on Stephen King’s nine-volume “Dark Tower” book series.

With a major casting shift from one Oscar winner to another, a script on the way from an Oscar-winning screenwriter for an Oscar-winning director and producer, this project has all kinds of high-end DNA attached. Now comes the hard part, bankrolling a massive investment, perhaps the biggest since “The Lord of the Rings” hit a moon shot, for about the cost of going to the moon.

Are you as surprised as we were that the Motion Picture Academy’s 176 newest members include such long-time movie stalwarts as Terrence Malick, Wong Kar Wai, Stephen King and Michelle Yeoh?
They’ve been important fixtures in Hollywood and the movie business around the world that it seemed surprising that they weren’t inducted into the academy long ago.
More generally, it was a good day for Hobbits, Bridesmaids, Artists and a lot of others who work behind the scenes to make movies. Check the whole list at Deadline.com and tell us your own surprises.
