The (VERY) red-band trailer for “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” is out from MGM and Paramount. Despite the alleged fairy tale source of the movie, it’s definitely oriented toward grown-ups who don’t mind seeing a little (or quite a lot) of witch blood spattered across the screen.
Subtlety may not be among the strong points of the film, but check out the trailer here:http://www.deadline.com/2012/10/hansel-andgretel-witch-hunters-trailer-red-band/What do you think? Seems a bit modern and post-ironic and all for a fairy tale, but it might be fun.

Oscar fans should take a look at Deadline Awards Columnist Pete Hammond’s lengthy take on Paramount’s use of a relatively new technique to get awards candidates in front of the right audiences (see it here: http://www.deadline.com/2012/10/denzel-washington-oscar-hopeful-flight/ )

In this case, the film being flogged was “Flight,” directed by Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis and starring Oscar winner Denzel Washington. Denzel was taken sick after appearing at the world premiere the night before, but plenty of other top members of the cast showed up.
If Paramount is using this sort of smart (but not cheap) approach to push its awards hopefuls, you can bet most of the other major studios also will be trying some version of it.  The hunt for Oscar continues.

After Sunday night’s screening of Oscar bait “Flight,” Paramount execs stuck around a day and showed the studio’s promo reel of a series of upcoming films.

The most impressive stuff, according to Deadline’s Mike Fleming: Michael Bay’s “Pain and Gain” tale of steroid abuse and the oft-criticized film translation of prominent graphic novel “World War Z.”

Well, this, as they say in Hollywood, could be a big piece of business: Deadline’s Nikki Finke and Mike Fleming have pried the details out of Paramount, which is all set on its relaunch of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan character, which already has been played to fabulous effect by Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin.
You may have some passing knowledge of the pair in the photo above. More about them and lots of details on when the film will come out, longer-term plans for the franchise and more can be found on Deadline.

Deadline’s Nikki Finke has some extensive analysis of a very big announcement in the ranks of big-time animation: DreamWorks Animation is moving its distribution deal to Fox from Paramount, where it had been for seven years.
Fox already had Blue Sky Studios, the folks behind the blockbuster “Ice Age” franchise and “Rio.” Adding distribution for DWA could create quite a potent lineup in animation for Fox.
Read more about the deal, which has some pretty interesting numbers for you Wall Street stock watchers, here: http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/exclusive-dreamworks-animation-to-fox/

The long-running video game franchise “Splinter Cell,” based on a concept from techno-thriller novelist Tom Clancy, was revolutionary in its time, bringing stealth gameplay to an explosion-driven business.
Now, the franchise just may sneak onto the silver screen, Deadline’s Mike Fleming reports. It doesn’t take a stretch of the imagination to see how this might find some fans.

Joe Cornish set off quite a bidding war for his services after the success of his low-budget alien thriller “Attack the Block.” Now, he’s set to direct “Snow Crash,” the long-delayed film version of Neal Stephenson’s classic cyberpunk yarn.

What do you think of the choice? Is this one you’re looking forward to finally seeing on screen?

This Deadline.com story, about the release of a Godfather-themed version of the board game Monopoly, has already attracted a raft of rather amusing comments from our social media followers: “Dibs on the severed horse head token;” “Eight hours of offers you can’t refuse;” “Hope this becomes a movie!” (okay, that last is more likely to happen than not, given “Battleship,” et al).
Any comedians out there with other suggestions? This one just sets up so many jokes. What other classic films should be made into Monopoly- (or other) themed games? “Wall Street” Monopoly seems too easy…
