The vituperation over NBC’s tape-delayed Olympics, and the occasional eliding of, oh, kinda important real stuff, has driven a certain subset of the American public (not to mention one very vexed LA-based correspondent for The Independent) slightly nuts, leading to a Twitter storm of #NBCFail tags.
So, it’s with some bemusement that I report the latest updated numbers by Deadline’s Dominic Patten: People are hating the Olympic coverage so much they sent ratings to a 36-year high.
NBC, which is now saying it’s expects to break even on the Olympics, has to be giggling a bit in its bunker, relatively safe from all the incoming snark while counting the billion dollars that it sold in advertising and is now delivering on so substantively. Who’d have thought this was coming?
Oh, and lots more about all this to read over on Deadline at: ow.ly/cHtuT

#NBCFail? WHAT #NBCFail? Ratings continue to rock despite complaints.

For all the #NBCFail complaints across Twitter and FB, plenty of viewers are finding their way to the tape-delayed, prime-time, fully homogenized and pasteurized NBC broadcast of the London 2012 Olympics.

Deadline’s Dominic Patten updated his story from this morning w

ith final numbers showing that NBC’s ratings continue to rock: Tuesday’s were highest in a decade. People aren’t TOO annoyed, now are they?

So, are you watching the Games? What are you watching, and on what platforms/outlets? Bummed about badminton baggers? Full of Phelps? Jumping for gymnastics? Or are you part of the Olympics discontents?

CBS lost its initial attempt to block the broadcast of an ABC show, “The Glass House,” that it said looked too much like one of its own reality stalwarts, “Big Brother,” when the judge hearing a request for a temporary restraining order said no.

Throw in last night’s appeal by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association of its loss in a suit against Dick Clark Productions over the Golden Globes award telecasts, and it’s easy to see why there are so many attorneys in Hollywood. Lots of work to be done.

Deadline’s Dominic Patten is reporting that Lionsgate has decided to delay for at least a year its efforts to create a remake of the much-loved 1987 romance starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Read more here.
And the many fans of “Dirty Dancing” are breathing a very noisy collective sigh of relief, at least judging from reactions on Deadline’s various social media feeds, where the sentiment is running strongly toward “thank goodness.”
So, what do you think? Glad it’s not moving forward? Wishing you could see what a new generation of stars could do with the property?
