Listen to “Deadline Big Media” episode 19, my latest podcast with Deadline Executive Editor David Lieberman about media, entertainment and technology on Wall Street and far beyond.
This week we talk about about the potential impacts on Hollywood of President Obama’s initiatives to reduce gun violence; the different (though now both upward) paths of former corporate siblings CBS and Viacom; and the major expansion plans of Aereo, the Barry Diller-backed startup that’s causing lots of upset among the networks.

Is it cool? A stunt? Just annoying when you want to hang out and watch a show?

When you’re Steven Spielberg and Stephen King, you don’t have to worry about that silly little pilot, pickup, etc. dance that TV puts most creators through. Nope, not when your project is “Under the Dome,” a sci-fi drama based on a King novel that is now headed straight to a 13-show order on CBS.
Deadline’s TV Editor Nellie Andreeva has lots more detail on this Very Big Project here: http://www.deadline.com/2012/11/cbs-orders-under-the-dome-series-from-steven-spielberg-neal-baer-to-run-niels-arden-oplev-to-direct/
Who’s looking forward to this project?

If you missed it over the weekend, my latest “Deadline Big Media” podcast with Deadline.com Executive Editor David Lieberman.
This week, we look at the impacts of last week’s election results on Big Media stocks and Wall Street in general; examine why Jeff Bewkes says now is not the time for a Time-Warner online broadband channel; and discuss what is driving the call to shift TV ratings measures from three to seven days, as the CEOs of Disney and CBS are calling for. Lionsgate, a big movie advertiser, is okay with such as shift, but wants “some adjustments.”
Hear it all here: http://www.deadline.com/2012/11/deadline-big-media-with-david-lieberman-episode-9/
Oh, and there’s a link there so you can subscribe to the podcast automatically, if you’re the sort who knows what the term “podcatcher” means. We’re still awaiting approval from Apple to post the show on iTunes.
