Oscar fans should take a look at Deadline Awards Columnist Pete Hammond’s lengthy take on Paramount’s use of a relatively new technique to get awards candidates in front of the right audiences (see it here: http://www.deadline.com/2012/10/denzel-washington-oscar-hopeful-flight/ )  In this case, the film being flogged was “Flight,” directed by Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis and starring Oscar winner Denzel Washington. Denzel was taken sick after appearing at the world premiere the night before, but plenty of other top members of the cast showed up.  If Paramount is using this sort of smart (but not cheap) approach to push its awards hopefuls, you can bet most of the other major studios also will be trying some version of it.  The hunt for Oscar continues.
